A HEART-FELT MESSAGE FROM OUR PRESIDENT, Fr. Heyward B. Ewart, III, Ph.D.

St. Paul said, “Without love I am nothing.” To me, the same goes for our seminary and our church. Loving Jesus comes before anything else. He loves us, no matter what state we're in, and if we truly love Him, we will love each other. He will empower us to love.

If I find myself lacking in love for my neighbor, and I have at times, it is because I am not loving Jesus enough. But only He can help me love Him. I need to ask His help to love Him more.

The job of our ministry is to deliver the love of Christ to everyone we can. On earth, He demonstrated that love by forgiving, by healing physical and emotional hurts, by teaching the truth, by giving comfort, and finally by giving His very life through unspeakable suffering.

Yet, with all that He has done and continues to do, he asks only that we love one another.

I know, and I tremble at the fact, that I will be held accountable for how well I have loved my flock and for how much I have helped you love Christ.

If you are angry at God or some church, it's my job to help you in love.

If you have sinned gravely, it's my job to help you understand, to aid you in repenting, and to assure you of forgiveness as a representative of Jesus.

If you are overcome with guilt, it's my job to take it apart, help you see it in a new light, and divert it to the cross.

If you are hurting from emotional or family problems, it's my job to foster your healing.

If you are physically ill, it is my job to anoint you and pray for your healing.

If your son or daughter is on drugs or addicted to alcohol, it's my job to render expert advice and to know what I'm talking about.

If you have digested misinformation, it's my job to teach you.

If you are lonely, it's my job to be your friend.

If you are gifted in some way, and everybody is, it's my job to help you blossom to the glory of God.

These are some of the points on which I will be judged as a pastor.

There are hoards of people who cannot or will not return to their denomination of origin. They may have violated a teaching or become displeased with some other matter. Nonetheless they want and need the Blessed Sacraments. And they know that the Sacraments can be administered only by a valid priest. Well, here's the joyful news!

We are genuine priests, descendants of the Apostolic Succession, with lines of priestly authority dating directly back to the original apostles. Although we are Catholic in matters of faith and morals, and therefore teach the truth, we offer the Holy Sacraments to all who appreciate their value and to all in need. We judge no-one. We forgive as Jesus does.

Therefore, we are a comforting resource for people for many, many people who have felt they have no place to go. All who worship Jesus and hold a love for the truth are welcome with us, regardless of denomination. Because we are Christians, we love all people and thus welcome all minorities with open arms and with joy.

May we never depart from our mission: to love, forgive, and restore.

We honor both Holy Scripture and Holy Tradition, and we venerate the Fathers of the Church. We love the Blessed Mother. We believe in miracles because we have witnessed them with our own eyes. Yes, we practice the Gifts of the Holy Spirit.

Saint James CCC, a Jacksonville local church in formation, takes this identity very seriously. We uphold the sacred truths that have been believed from the beginning--the times of the Apostles themselves.

It is true that you can come home again! It's "a time to heal"

MEMORIALIZE YOUR LOVED ONE

Although all of our legal paperwork is in order, and we are all set to start, we have no meeting place as of yet. We are the first church in our order to establish a parish in Jacksonville.

We need an individual or a business to donate a meeting place for use on Sundays or Saturday nights, perhaps both.  Maybe you have friends who would be immediately interested.

If you can suggest a way for us to get off the ground, please call Fr. Heyward Ewart at 904-724-3536.

Thank you for your prayerful consideration.

About Fr. Ewart

Although I was not ordained a priest until the early 90's, I have been a Christian Counselor for 25 years. In that time, I have treated most every form of emotional distress you can imagine. For a few years beginning in 1989, I pastored a nondenominational church that I founded with my hundreds of former patients. It was called the Church of the Overcomers. The idea was to bring the treatment of such suffering under the umbrella of a "therapeutic worship community." It proved to be a wonderful and successful concept at first, but the focus was too narrow, and the town thought you had to have something wrong with you to join.

During its "dwindling down" period, an Orthodox priest who had heard of my sermons popped in to attend a service. That particular day I was preaching on Holy Communion. The priest was so overtaken by my orthodoxy that we became fast friends. Eventually he convinced me to mentor under him and his bishop as the formation process of deacon and later priest. So I began in a branch of independent Orthodoxy and only later found my beloved Catholic Charismatic Church.

I spent ten years in Sumter, SC, until I returned to Jacksonville in April of this year (2007) and was gratefully assigned the task of building St. James CCC. This is joyful work, to say the least.

I should, and will, make it clear that I'm very human. So if you come to me with a confession, or for counseling, chances are I can relate. Praise God for our Savior and His mercy!
